Mimesis at the Movies is a live open-to-all online conversation that meets on the first Thursday of each month. We discuss a film suggested by a discussion participant. In sharing beautiful, thoughtful films with one another, we seek out stories depicting interpersonal growth nurtured by shared desires.
On July 3, we’ll discuss Inside Out 2, a 2024 American animated coming-of-age film produced by Pixar Animation Studios for Walt Disney Pictures. The sequel to Inside Out(2015), it was directed by Kelsey Mann[c] and was produced by Mark Nielsen, from a screenplay written by Meg LeFauve and Dave Holstein, and a story conceived by Mann and LeFauve. This film isn’t just another coming-of-age Disney comedy. It’s also a cinematic sketch of Internal Family Systems (IFS), so there’s a lot to think about here.
The gathering free, but you must register in advance with Humanitix to receive the Zoom link. The link will be emailed to you from Humanitix.
If you’re unfamiliar with IFS, you might like to watch this 8-minute synopsis from Richard C. Schwartz, the marriage and family therapist who developed it in the 1980s. For a deeper dive, check out this 15-minute double interview with Schwartz and Elizabeth Gilbert.
Life’s busy! If you don’t have time for feature length Disney animations, don’t let that stop you from coming to our discussion. A plot synopsis will be provided at the beginning of the meeting.
